Research Interests

Our research interests are centered on the understanding and elucidation of the microscopic processes, such as electrochemistry, catalysis, chemical and biological sensors, and photovoltaics. These include the synthesis, characterization and application of various organic-inorganic nanostructured materials. Due to their unique physical and chemical properties, which lie somewhere between those of bulk and atomic species, they will be exploited for many fascinating potential uses in the future.

Current Research Directions

  • Nanoporous membrane fabrication and use as a template for electrochemical nanorod synthesis.
  • Synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials, such as isotropic and anisotropic nanoparticles, via wet-chemical methods.
  • Nano-photovoltaic cell and optical sensor fabrication
  • Chemical and biochemical sensors with hybrid organic-inorganic nanorod structures.
  • Ultra-thin coating of transition metals on noble metal nanoparticles for electrocatalysis.
  • Dip-pen-nanolithography for bio-material patterning.
  • Nano-scale lithography using nanoparticles.
  • Molecular-level understanding of adsorbate-surface interactions via Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), Infrared Reflection Absorption Spectroscopy (IRAS), Langmuir-Blodgette (LB) methods.
